New home of Fraser Valley Chapter, and former home of Golden Ears Chapter (1969-2010)

MAPLE RIDGE, Apr. 9—It may be the new home of Fraser Valley Chapter, Order of DeMolay, but the Prince David Masonic Hall was a familiar sight to a number of Senior DeMolays attending the Chapter’s installation this evening, the first since relocating from Abbotsford during the COVID pandemic.

The Masonic Hall in Maple Ridge once provided a meeting place for Golden Ears Chapter, which met from 1969 until early 2010.

River Peatman, DeMolay Canada Parliament Speaker, was installed for a fourth term (not consecutive) as Master Councillor. The ceremony was conducted by Dad Eric Einarson, who flew in from Edmonton especially for it. Dad Einarson is now the Parliament Adviser.

Wilson McLean was invested as Senior Councillor and Cole Sergent as Junior Councillor. Carson Sargent, Easton Davis and Zakariya Tartibian were also installed into lower offices.

The Advisory Council for the year was installed by Dad Jim Bennie, Past Executive Officer and a former member of Golden Ears Chapter, with Dad Brian Trann, PMC of Edmonton Chapter, replacing Dad Gary Peatman as Chapter Dad. Dad Peatman served for 3 1/2 years, and was declared an honorary life member of the Chapter by his son in a touching tribute and presentation.

Dad Bennie gave the Flower Talk to the members who had been initiated the previous evening, while the Ceremony of Light was exemplified in a fine fashion by Dad Steve Hargrove, a Senior DeMolay and Past Ritual Advisor of Beaver Chapter.

Observing the ceremonies were Dad Greg Stewart, Past Provincial Master Councillor, and Dad Neal Davis, both PMCs of Golden Ears Chapter.

The most senior of the Senior DeMolays present was Dad Archer Benzel, who was initiated into Beaver Chapter on October 21, 1949.

Greetings were received from the other two Chapters in the jurisdiction, as well as several Job’s Daughters’ Bethels and Masonic-related groups.
